By products from biogas plants, composting plants, biodiesel plants, biomass plants and Oleochemical plants often have significant fertiliser value. Often these materials have been verified by a publicly available specification scheme (PAS) as end of waste which means they can be spread to land out with the waste management licencing regulations.
It is still a useful way of handling either materials with high ash contents or materials with a low calorific value, as many biogas plants do not want to handle lots of very liquid by products and waste as they end up having to spread this material to land as digestate.
