Industrial scale composting

Industrial composting is a well-established aerobic process for treating all types of organic wastes. It is a very robust process and can tolerate much higher levels of physical contamination than more sensitive anaerobic systems. Most composting systems do not have energy recovery systems, so it is generally treatment only. But many site are animal by product compliant and their treatment of category 2 & 3 animal by-products is possible.

Most facilities will produce compost to publicly available specification (PAS 100), this means that material has been converted from a waste into a product. Compost is a good organic fertiliser but doesn’t have much value and there for gate fees for acceptance of waste are a necessity
